Friendly Market
Context
Furmanov is a mono-city which thrived In Soviet times thanks to textile factories and its trade businesses, attracting shoppers from across the country with its innovative supermarkets, fruit bars, and high service culture. Eventually, it declined, and public spaces deteriorated, leaving the town in need of renewal.

The Market
Our concept of park revives Furmanov’s heritage, merging the festive, collaborative spirit of traditional fairs with the high standards of Soviet-era trade. It aims to become a vibrant central hub, a community space, and a new tourism brand.

Opening day
At the opening, the Market Square welcomed locals in a festive mood; the ravine park featured yoga, plant swaps, and lilac planting. A plein-air painting event was held near the church.

The Square
The former chaotic market entrance has been redesigned as a "friendly market square", hosting daily and seasonal fairs. A central round pavilion offers rest and trade space, while kiosks, oversized yet very warm, creates a sense of cozyness.

The Ravine
Right after the market square, an abandoned ravine has been turned into a public space with a lake amphitheater and boardwalk designed following the visual identity created on the market square.

The Park
A new park offers a quiet retreat for locals and a welcome point for tourists, featuring seating, information stands, and a symbolic archway framing a nearby church, a town’s landmark.

City brand
The Market square is emerging as a tourist destination and brand, with its visual identity used on signs, posters, and product packaging throughout the area.
